COMPLETION OF ECONOMICS FOR SUCCESS PROGRAMME

Junior Achievement Cyprus in collaboration with the Bank Association of Cyprus organised the programme “Economics for Success”. The programme is addressed to Gymnasium students, with the main goal of financial literacy and preparation for the labor market. Students learn basic business and financial terms, explore their professional interests and prospects and develop skills that prepare them for the world of work.

More specifically, students are introduced to the concept of financial literacy through the key issues of personal choices and self-awareness, budget, credit score and financial risk. Students are enabled to explore their skills, interests, values and the world of work so that they can make the right decisions about their educational future, career and life in general.

The goal of the Organization is both the implementation and development of the specific programme in the Gymnasiums and the deepening in the cultivation of the skills offered through the it. The current academic year, a total of 329 students participated in the programme from 11 schools (15 classes) in Cyprus. In the county of Nicosia the Gymnasiums that took part are the Gymnasium of Stavros, the Gymnasium of Solea, the Gymnasium of Makedonitissa and the Gymnasium of Dianellos and Theodotos. In the county of Limassol, Mitsi School of Lemythou and the Gymnasium of Omodos. In the province of Larnaca, the Regional High School of Xylotympos, the High School of Drosia and the High School of Aradippou. In the province of Paphos, the High School of Ag. Paraskevi Geroskipou and in the county of Famagusta the Gymnasium-Lyceum of Peace and Freedom of Deryneia – Sotira. It is with great pleasure that we observe that year after year our programme is accepted with great enthusiasm by students and teachers, giving us the strength to continue our valuable work and prepare young people for the real world.

After the end of the programme, mentors and teachers expressed their views on their participation, stating respectively:

“The majority of the students seemed to enjoy what they have learned and experienced the implementation day, while the cooperation with the teacher was very good. I enjoyed it more than I imagined” (Mentor).

I liked the constant interaction with the students and the satisfaction I received from the opportunity I gave them to get away even for a while from the daily routine of the lessons and to connect with real life, gaining valuable supplies for the future” (Teacher).

On the occasion of the completion of the programme “Economics for Success” for the school year 2020-2021, the Organization would like to thank the mentors and teachers who participated as well as the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth for their continued support. Special thanks to the Bank Association of Cyprus for the financial support of the programme.
