FINALE AND AWARD CEREMONY ‘StartUp 2021’ – Eleutho Diagnostics won the first prize!
Continuing its efforts to encourage business ideas and innovation, Junior Achievement Cyprus (JA Cyprus) organized on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, the Final and Award Ceremony of the “StartUp 2021” program. The competition was the culmination of the efforts of more than 230 students, aged 18-30. During the event, 10 finalists from the 43 student companies created in 2021, had the opportunity to present their innovative business ideas and were evaluated through interviews by the Jury.
The Final Jury Committee consisted of Mr. Andreas Papadopoulos, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement Cyprus, Mr. Spyros Charitou from the Information Resouce Department of the US Embassy in Cyprus, Mr. Theodoros Loukaidis Director General, Research and Innovation Foundation, Mr. Costas Tziamalis, Group Risk and Investor Relations Director, Asbis. The event was greeted by the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Transformation, Mr. Kyriakos Kokkinos and Mrs Denise Jobin Welch, Public Affairs Head of the US Embassy.
After the great success of 2020, with our representative team Aid4All winning 1st place in Europe, the programme was implemented in 2021 in 6 Universities of Cyprus, with the support of 11 teachers and 19 mentors.
This year, the 1st ‘StartUp 2021’ award was won by the team Eleutho Diagnostics, which aims at accurate predictions whether a woman will give birth normally or before her time. Using an algorithm, artificial intelligence, and EHG sensors, the gynecologist will be informed by the platform for predicting preterm birth and then will advise the pregnant woman to avoid any complications. The team of the University of Cyprus was supported by their professor Daina Nikolaou and their mentor Ioulios Georgiou.
The Kitouch team from the University of Nicosia won the 2nd place. The team aims to supply medical consumables and reusable products for human use. Ensures safe interaction between healthy people and a person who needs to be isolated due to infections. The team was supported by their teachers Markella Menikou and Angela Petrou and their mentor Panagiotis Philimis.
The 3rd place was won by the Dynamics team, from Cyprus University of Technology, which intends to create innovative products using local raw materials, to enhance human health, without neglecting respect for the environment The team created a beverage based on carob and the use of the fermentation process with microorganisms. The team was supported by professors Dimitris Tsaltas and Fotis Papadimas as well as their mentor Dimitra Christodoulidou.
Eleutho Diagnostics will represent Cyprus in the European Competition of JA Europe, European Enterprise Challenge 2021 which will be held from June 29 to July 15 and will be hosted online by JA Lithuania. The Cypriot team will be represented by Eleni Tovletian, Panagiotis Prokopi, Rafael Frixou and George Pafitis.
