INNOVATION CAMP in the Blue Economy
Junior Achievement Cyprus and the Municipality of Limassol are organizing the 1st Blue Economy Innovation Camp on Thursday, March 9, 2023, between the hours of 08:30-18:30, at the Innovation Center – Blue Economy (Franklin Roosevelt Avenue, Limassol). Following the relevant circular from the Ministry of Education, high school students are encouraged to participate in the camp by registering on the website listed in the circular. During Innovation Camp, students face an entrepreneurship challenge related to the Blue Economy and propose ideas and solutions. By utilizing technology, they locate relevant information and develop their proposal with arguments, under the guidance of professionals from the field of blue economy and entrepreneurship. The best proposals will be awarded by a special committee.
The development of the blue economy is today a long-term European strategy to support the sustainable development of the maritime and shipping sector. This strategy recognizes the seas and oceans as drivers of the European economy with great potential for innovation and growth. This is the contribution of the Integrated Maritime Policy to the achievement of “Europe 2020” strategy objectives for smart, sustainable, and inclusive development.
The Blue Economy is defined by the following sectors:
- The achievement of climate neutrality and zero pollution objectives
- The transition to a circular economy and the reduction of pollution
- The conservation of biodiversity and investments in nature
- Supporting climate change adaptation and coastal resilience
- Ensuring sustainable food production
The Camp offers students the opportunity to develop creative and innovative thinking, strengthen business skills, and promote communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. It motivates them to discover and face challenges in the field of the blue economy, it allows them to meet and network with professionals from the specific area as well as to develop the skills of presenting ideas.
The Camp will be supported by mentors from the blue economy and the business community of Cyprus. Mentors will work with students and support them in developing their ideas and presentations. Students will be accompanied by their teachers.
