Continuing its efforts to encourage business ideas and innovation, Junior Achievement Cyprus (JA Cyprus) organized on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, the Final and Award Ceremony of the “<\/span>StartUp<\/span>\u00a0202<\/span>1<\/span>” program. The competition was the culmination of the efforts of more than 230 students, aged 18-30. During the event, 10 finalists from the 43 student companies created in 2021, had the opportunity to present their innovative business ideas and were evaluated through interviews by the Jury.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Final Jury Committee consisted of Mr. Andreas Papadopoulos, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Junior Achievement Cyprus, Mr. Spyros\u00a0<\/span>Charitou<\/span>\u00a0from the\u00a0<\/span>Information\u00a0<\/span>Resouce<\/span>\u00a0Department of the US Embassy in Cyprus, Mr. Theodoros\u00a0<\/span>Loukaidis<\/span>\u00a0Director General<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Research and Innovation<\/span>\u00a0Foundation<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0Mr. Costa<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Tziamali<\/span>s<\/span>, Group Risk and Investor Relations Director,\u00a0<\/span>Asbis<\/span>. The event was greeted by the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Transformation, Mr. Kyriakos Kokkinos<\/span>\u00a0and Mrs Denise Jobin Welch, Public Affairs Head of the US Embassy<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A<\/span>fter\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span>\u00a0great success\u00a0<\/span>of 2020<\/span>, with our representative team Aid4All winning 1st place in Europe,\u00a0<\/span>the programme\u00a0<\/span>was implemented\u00a0<\/span>in 2021<\/span>\u00a0in 6 Universities of Cyprus, with the support of 11 teachers and 19 mentors.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, the\u00a0<\/span>1<\/span>st<\/span>\u00a0\u2018<\/span>StartUp<\/span>\u00a02021\u2019 award was won by the team\u00a0<\/span>Eleutho<\/span>\u00a0Diagnostics, which aims at accurate predictions whether a woman will give birth normally or before her time. Using an algorithm, artificial intelligence, and EHG sensors, the\u00a0<\/span>gynecologist<\/span>\u00a0will be informed by the platform for predicting preterm birth and then will advise the pregnant woman to avoid any complications. The team of the University of Cyprus was supported by their professor\u00a0<\/span>Da<\/span>i<\/span>na<\/span>\u00a0Nikolaou and their mentor\u00a0<\/span>Ioulio<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Georgiou.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>Kitouch<\/span>\u00a0team from the University of Nicosia won the\u00a0<\/span>2<\/span>nd<\/span>\u00a0place. The team<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>aims to supply medical consumables and reusable products for human use. Ensures safe interaction between healthy people and a person who needs to be isolated due to infections. The team was supported by their teachers\u00a0<\/span>Markella<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Menikou<\/span>\u00a0and Angela\u00a0<\/span>Petrou<\/span>\u00a0and their mentor Panagiotis\u00a0<\/span>Ph<\/span>ilimis<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0<\/span>3<\/span>rd<\/span>\u00a0place was won by the Dynamics team, from Cyprus University of Technology, which intends to create innovative products using local raw materials, to enhance human health<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>without neglecting respect for the environment<\/span>\u00a0T<\/span>he team created a beverage based on carob and the use of the fermentation process with microorganisms. The team was supported by professors Dimitris\u00a0<\/span>Tsaltas<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Fotis<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Papadimas<\/span>\u00a0as well as their mentor Dimitra\u00a0<\/span>Christodoulidou<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Eleutho<\/span>\u00a0Diagnostics will represent Cyprus in the European Competition of JA Europe, European Enterprise Challenge 2021 which will be held from June 29 to July 15 and will be hosted online by JA Lithuania. The Cypriot team will be represented by Eleni\u00a0<\/span>Tovletian<\/span>, Panagiotis\u00a0<\/span>Prokopi<\/span>, Rafael\u00a0<\/span>Frixou<\/span>\u00a0and George\u00a0<\/span>Pafitis<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
